Countdown to Fall Practice - Wide Receivers

We are winding down our countdown series before the first practice (which means Fall practice is about to begin), with a look at each position as it relates to our team. Today, we take a look at our potent offensive weapons, the Wide Receiving corps.  This includes the X, Y receivers and the slot receiver (3rd receivers in our offense).  These guys are the highlight reel plays and we've got a ton of size and speed up and down the roster.  The home run threats make our QBs look very good.

X Wide Receiver: UCF Transfer and Redshirt Junior Sidney Haynes is an explosive deep threat and is as solid as it gets.  If you missed the Spring Game (where were you?), Haynes took a Kelton Hill bomb to the house for 54 yards. Redshirt Freshman Danny Williams has very good size and will back up "King Haynes."

Y Wide Receiver: Redshirt Freshman Jordan Giles will likely start at the Y wide out.  Giles is very solid and can move the chains.  Converted DB Freshman Albert Wilson is a likely back up candidate if he doesn't take a redshirt.

DJ's Analysis: The four other walk-ons are 3rd on the depth chart on either side. Giles is actually our most consistent receiver and will be the primary target, in my opinion. The kid can flat-out catch and he rarely drops a pass, even after taking a heavy hit. He's [had trouble with the playbook], but since he had a year of practice, he will be good to go come Sept. 2nd. Danny Williams will probably switch with Haynes and Giles, depending on the play and our position on the field.

The Slot Wide Receivers (with DJ's thoughts)

Parris Lee - Incredible hands and just might be the fastest guy on our team. If this kid gets a glimpse of clear space, forget about it.

Nate Anthony - Not too far behind Lee and just might give him a run for his money, no pun intended.

Darren McCray - Lightning fast and probably the best side-step of the 3 but his size (5-7) is a problem. He will also be returning the ball on special teams.
