Today we wrap up our countdown series before the first practice as the players on campus will be wrapping up final exams and the new players will report and have physicals taken. We've taken a look at each position as it relates to our team. Today, we will focus on the most important position on field, the Quarterbacks. If this position is weak, your offense is weak. Fortunately, we're very talented at this position and it should be a fun battle to watch, specifically for the back up role.
Much hyped Alabama Redshirt Sophmore Star Jackson gets my nod. He'll likely win the job in the few weeks of camp because he's so much more physically gifted than the rest of the signal callers on our roster. The accolades for Jackson coming of HS are mind boggling: Rivals.com #5 Rated QB in the country, Scout.com #11 and ESPN Scouts, Inc. #22. He came out of Lake Worth HS at 6'3, 182lbs. and will take the field in less than a month at 210lbs. He's put the work in, he's gotten academically right, the kid's going to live up to his name.
Redshirt Freshman Kelton Hill won the job in the spring, I believe, then a funny thing happend, a Division 1 transfer from a BCS National Champion stepped on campus. I'm very interested to see is Hill uses this as someting to motivate him or whether he unplugs and is gone by the time spring practice 2011 rolls around.
Redshirt Freshman Drew Little has lost some weight since spring and that's certainly commendable. That's why I've listed him at #3 instead of below. He's got a big arm and needs to work on his footwork but I see good things for him by the time he's a Junior in our system.
Redshirt Freshman Bo Schlechter rounds out the QB race. He's nipping at the heels at Mr. Little and is a threat both on the ground and in the air. He's a above average athlete that will be able to learn and grown. Also interested to see how he develops in the coming years.
Thanks for everyone's feedback and a special thank you to my man, DJ for his guest analysis. Check his work out on the main page of PantherTalk.com
