it was nice to see the White (defense) beat the Red (offense) in a 43-34 game that marked the end of the spring football season. UH has been held back by it's defense for a number of years, so any sign of optimism is a welcome one.
Cotton Turner started for the Red team, as Case Keenum is still recovering from his ACL injuries, and threw for 162 yards and two TD's. David Piland, who led the offense at the end of last year, tacked on 127 yards and a TD on 14-20 passing. The running game? Again, not much of a focus for the Coogs offense. Randall Hollimon led the charge with 62 yards on seven rushes.
Jon Witten recorded a team-high 10 tackles, and the White team managed six sacks (12 points) and seven defensive stops (7 points). D.J. Jones, a sophomore, notched the lone interception for the defense. The White team did still allow 643 yards of total offense, but if they're able to hold offenses of UH's caliber to 34 points, the Cougars may be able to win some of the shootouts that they couldn't last season.
