Charlotte Rejected By SoCon, Big South. Is CAA Football On Deck?

GoBlueRidge.net Link

Another FCS team entering the fray and not getting the response from a football only invite that they would like.  I still believe that Georgia State is much better positioned for the long term than the 49ers but I'd be suprised if Commissioner Yeager doesn't offer a football only invite to Charlotte as his league is quickly falling apart.

  1. UNCC is going to have to be willing to give up the Ghost on this associate member status. Full Membership or nothing, I can't blame the SoCon or the Big (not really !)South. Though I had presumed the Big South would benefit more from adding another football program. Whats another Carolina school to the SoCon. They turned down Coastal and Jacksonville State, why accept UNCC ? Now I can see one day adding Mercer to the SoCon once their alumni tires of the novelty of non-scholarship football, and they move forward in their program development. Can't wait for that. The Bears will make a great future addition to the SoCon after Georgia Southern has moved into either the Sun Belch or a repopulated C USA (assuming the Big East raids it of E.Carolina and C Florida). Really that only leaves one question, what about KSU ? ; word has it either SoCOn or OVC .

  2. The biggest thing is that the A-10 is more respected in all of their Olympic sports. I do believe that Charlotte has hopes to go FBS and will stay FCS Independent to accomodate their goals.

Mercer will make money from non-scholarship even if no one shows up so I believe it will quite a while before they go scholarship at the NAIA or FCS levels.

Georgia Southern's window closed, IMO. We will go FBS before they will and I believe Kennesaw State will soon crowd the marketplace as well utilizing the Atlanta market.

It's going to be a fun ride.
