Friday Quick Hitters - 10.22.10

Good Morning Panther Nation and Happy Friday! The team will be headed to my home state today for its 2nd ever road contest tomorrow.

A few links relating to our program...

Curry weighs in on the heavy hitting from the AJC:
No, we’ve not done enough to stop these injuries, and the burden is on the coaches to teach head up with the tackle. Most catastrophic injury in the sport of football happens with the compression of the spine because the head is down and the blow is delivered with the top of the head gear.

As for the concussion and the brain trauma, the unprotected guy, the receiver who is earholed, his brain is thrown violently against his skull, and it needs time to recover. Research has shown it’s not the one hit, it is the succession and cumulative effect of hits after the damage has commenced.

We say it point-blank, and we practice and make them tackle with their heads up. We go over and over this stuff. I had severe concussions in high school, minor in college, and very severe in the NFL. I’m conscious of it.”

Augusta Chronicle Picks Us To Win:
Georgia State @ Old Dominion: Two expansion I-AA programs meet in two flourishing recruiting grounds. Georgia State has a better coach, which should make the difference but it won't be easy. Panthers 24, Monarchs 21.  Link

Newport Daily Press and another 'Rejuvenated Curry': It's honestly getting pretty funny that this seems to be the only word used to describe CBC.  Like he was exhausted when he left.  Pretty good quotes and my favorite: [On the 4 game win streak] "We're not riding anything," Curry said of his team's success. "We're stumbling, scraping and scrapping. Honestly, that's how it feels." NDP Link

Look for my preview and prediction later today.
