Associate Head Coach/WR Coach/Recruiting Coordinator George Pugh pinch hit for CBC yesterday on his call in show. He did a great job impressing that with experience, we will continue to learn how to respond to tougher competition. Mark Hogan came on in the last segment and as CBC and Dave mention often, he doesn't like the spot light. Had a whale of a game on Saturday though. Check out my Twitter page for complete run down.

AJC: Players Find Curry Motivating
My wife who has been around football her entire life (Mom was a season ticket holder, Dad liked that team in Athens) and she says to me, "I want to get hit someone after hearing him."

As with Old Dominion in 2009, Georgia State is entering its first season of football in 2010. Unlike ODU, however, Georgia State will not be joining the CAA until 2012.
Attempting to predict how Georgia State will fair in 2012 is akin to dialing your ex at three in the morning - you can make the call, but it probably won't be right. Predicting the results of Georgia State's debut season in 2010 is a much more stable and healthy exercise.
Enter Bill Curry, seasoned and respected coach of such programs as Georgia Tech, Alabama and Kentucky. Curry has compiled 17 years of coaching experience and has won coach of the year in both the Southeastern Conference and Atlantic Coast Conference. As an NFL player, Curry played in three Super Bowls and learned under legendary coaches Vince Lombardi and Don Shula.
In 1980, Curry inherited a Georgia Tech team in transition, moving from independent status to the ACC. In 1985, Curry led the Yellow Jackets to a 9-2-1 record and a victory over heavily favored Michigan State in the All- American Bowl, Georgia Tech's first bowl victory in 13 years. He was named ACC Coach of the Year as a result.
Curry joins Georgia State in a similar period of transition and the belief is that he can duplicate his earlier success. This year's schedule has supporters optimistic, as Georgia State opens the season against a pair of Division II teams and also plays the other four FCS independents. Still, it is unlikely Georgia State will match ODU's surprising 9-2 record of a year ago, and may find 2012 a difficult transition before Curry can build a solid CAA contender.

$450,000 Reasons to Play
This was not much different than the answer Georgia State coach Bill Curry gave to ESPN the Magazine when asked about playing Alabama.
So, one good reason for guarantee games is that good athletes get exposure to more noted talent and they get a chance to elevate their game to a higher level.
And there are other good reasons to play:
The money's good. The $450,000 check that Alabama will pay Georgia State will go a long way to covering the costs of Georgia State's football program. If your sports program is running a deficit, then another school might be willing to help close that financial gap for you.

Latest ESPN the Mag Coverage of Building the Program
It was February and the 67-year-old Georgia State coach, taking a break from Grandparents' Day at Sarah Smith Elementary School, near his Atlanta home, was talking to Bill McDonald, an associate athletic director at Alabama. McDonald had worked with Curry throughout the 1980s, at both Georgia Tech and Bama, but what he had just said seemed ridiculous. He wanted Curry's newborn Georgia State Panthers, who don't even start playing until next season, to plan a trip to Tuscaloosa and play the resurgent Crimson Tide.
"When is the game?" Curry asked.
"Nov. 20, 2010," McDonald replied.
"Come on," Curry told him. "Let's talk about 2012 or 2013."
"Nope. Take it or leave it."
"You can't be serious about this. We have mostly freshmen. Just give me another year, at least."
"Can't do it."
